The three spots that get all the clicks
When someone in Volusia County searches "electrician near me" or "landscaper New Smyrna Beach," Google shows a map with three businesses above everything else, the map pack. Almost every click on that search goes to one of those three. Everyone else, no matter how good their website is, is competing for scraps on page two.
What actually gets you into the map pack
Whitespark's 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, based on input from 47 local SEO practitioners, breaks the weighting down: proximity to the searcher accounts for roughly 55% of it, your Google Business Profile signals for about 32%, and reviews for another 16 to 20%. Eight of the ten most important ranking factors overall come directly from your Business Profile, more than any other single source, and the single most important one is picking the right primary category. Reviews carry real weight too: businesses with a 4.0+ star rating show up in the map pack 58% more often than businesses rated lower, and recent reviews now matter more than raw review count. A profile with the right category, weekly photo updates, and a steady stream of recent reviews beats a profile with the bare minimum almost every time, even if the second business has been around longer.
Why "near me" searches are different across the county
A search for "roofer near me" in Deltona and the same search in New Smyrna Beach can return completely different map packs, because Google is matching proximity, not just keyword. A business with one address can rank well close to home and disappear entirely 25 miles away, unless their profile and service area settings are built to reflect the whole county they actually serve.
What this looks like built correctly
For a business that legitimately serves multiple Volusia County cities, that means a Google Business Profile with the service area set to match reality, consistent business information across every directory that lists you, and a review pipeline that doesn't rely on hoping customers think to leave one.
